Advancing RAN Performance: O-RAN ALLIANCE Participants Showcase Innovative Solutions at MWC Barcelona 2025

O-RAN ALLIANCE participants will showcase 33 open and intelligent Radio Access Networks (RAN) solutions throughout MWC Barcelona 2025 and at the O-RAN Virtual Exhibition.

The latest products and components, based on O-RAN specifications, demonstrate improved interoperability, efficiency, performance and security for deployments in mobile networks by diverse providers. Many showcased solutions focus on enhancements of O-RAN integration and testing for accelerating adoption of new components into existing networks.

Multiple demonstrations show how the O-RAN based AI framework – Near-Real-Time and Non-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controllers (RICs) running xApps or rApps – accelerates the value capture from AI innovations. These include hierarchical operation of apps and RICs for network optimization in a large-scale network, global orchestration for terrestrial and non-terrestrial network operations, integration of Quantum Machine Learning and Quantum-Inspired Algorithms for estimating quality of experience, non-linear signal processing framework to fully exploit spatial, frequency and time network resources, and more.

Explore O-RAN ALLIANCE’s interactive MWC map highlighting the 28 O-RAN showcases at the exhibition, making it easy for attendees to navigate to the respective booths. Many of these demos, along with five virtual-only demos, will be included in the O-RAN Virtual Exhibition expected to be available at the start of MWC.

Accelleran demonstrates the BeGREEN Intelligence Plane, showcasing A1 policies for energy savings, multi-vendor integration, and harmonic telemetry processing. This solution delivers real-time energy optimization in O-RAN networks, achieving up to 40% energy savings without impacting network quality.

AsiaInfo‘s AISWare IntellioRAN : O-RAN Based New Generation Wireless Product

AsiaInfo showcases AISWare IntellioRAN, an O-RAN stack-based wireless product portfolio. It includes O-DU, O-CU, O-RU, Non-RT RIC, Near-RT RIC, and intelligent xApps/rApps, featuring openness, AI-native design, green sustainability, and joint communication and computing.

Quantum-enabled O-RAN network management

MobileNet (Mobile & Aerospace Networks Lab of the University of Málaga) and partner propose the integration of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) and Quantum-Inspired Algorithms (QIA) to the management of O-RAN networks via Q-xApps and Q-rApps. This is showcased for QoE estimation based on real-network data.

Verification of RF Channel Reconfiguration xApp (RCR-xApp) for Energy Savings in Massive MIMO network from Rimedo Labs using Juniper RIC and Keysight RICtest

Rimedo Labs, Juniper Networks and Keysight jointly demonstrate the Energy Savings in O-RAN Massive MIMO network through the intelligent RF Channel Reconfiguration. The use case utilizes Juniper RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC), and Rimedo Labs RF Channel Reconfiguration xApp with Keysight RICtest RAN emulator.

Sustainable Global Orchestration for Service-Oriented Integration of Terrestrial and Non-Terrestrial Networks

SUTD and NICT showcase a global orchestration solution for service-oriented integration of O-RAN based Terrestrial Networks (TN) and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN). The developed orchestrator system leverages O-RAN interfaces to dynamically configure the TN and NTN settings based on traffic demands, which helps achieve significant energy savings.

AI/ML and Digital Twin Enhanced O-RAN Energy-Saving Demonstration using rApp (from SUTD), OmniRAN (from QCT), and TeraVM AI RSG (from VIAVI)

SUTD, in partnership with QCT and VIAVI Solutions, introduce an advanced Digital Twin solution to enhance energy savings in O-RAN based 5G networks. The developed synchronization rApp keeps the digital twin synchronized with the actual network, providing a virtual environment to accelerate the training of deep reinforcement learning models before deployment.

O-RAN based Dynamic LDPC Acceleration

The University of Tokyo showcases a demo of Near-RT RIC-assisted LDPC offloading to reduce energy consumption while maintaining decoding performance. The testbed consists of open-source platforms: OpenAirInterface5G and FlexRIC.

O-RAN Powered Cell-Free MIMO Network

University of York showcases a testbed using O-RAN powered cell-free MIMO to improve the quality of service for cell-edge users. The work is undertaken by the University of York, within the YO-RAN and REACH projects, both funded by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology of the UK government.

O-RAN Enabled CF-mMIMO Simulation Platform

The University of York’s REACH project demonstrates an O-RAN-enabled cell-free massive MIMO simulation platform in NS3. Featuring AI-powered and heuristic-based xApps for efficient handover and scalability, the platform aligns with O-RAN architecture, enabling cost-efficient, open RAN integration, and advancing industry innovation in flexible, high-performance wireless communication systems.

XCAL-ART for O-RAN E2E auto-testing using real UEs

Accuver showcases its XCAL-ART solution for O-RAN E2E testing at the O-RAN PlugFest hosted by LG U+. The objective of this test was to evaluate E2E performance in an environment where both LTE and 5G O-RAN system were co-deployed.

Network Energy Saving

Analog Devices, in partnership with VIAVI Solutions and Rohde & Schwarz, showcases energy-saving tests across various traffic models as per the ETSI 202 706-1 Specification. This demonstration monitors the energy consumption of ADI’s Titan O-RU Reference Design utilizing the Microsleep DTx Energy-Saving Feature resulting in significant OPEX and Energy reduction.

Introducing Fronthaul Monitor

Artiza Networks showcases the Fronthaul Monitor, aimed at tackling O-RAN open fronthaul connectivity issues in multi-vendor settings. Through a virtual demo, they present testing methods for RAN and illustrate typical use cases where the Fronthaul Monitor aids in isolating connectivity problems.

O-RAN Security Testing Showcase: Ensuring Robust Network Protection

Auray and Keysight showcase comprehensive O-RAN security testing highlighting WG11 v7 security tests on O-RUs, including interface validation, packet modification, delay attacks, and DoS prevention, ensuring robust security for Open RAN networks and safeguarding against evolving cyber threats.

Deployment and Operation of CNF (Cloud-native Network Functions) Virtualized Cell Site Router (vCSR) for Cloud Native O-RAN Virtualized RAN

Ciena, Keysight, Wind River, and Dell demo Ciena’s vCSR on the F1-C/U interface with Keysight’s emulated O-DU and O-CU, within Wind River’s Kubernetes cluster on Dell’s XR8000 servers, achieving 20Gbps throughput. This O-RAN demo highlights cloud-native network functions and efficient resource use, crucial for industry advancements.

Ericsson SMO and CommScope ONECELL nodes integrated over O1

CommScope ONECELL RAN node was integrated with Ericsson SMO, named EIAP (Ericsson Intelligent Automation Platform), through O1 interface for Fault Management. Leveraging open O1 interface, operators can achieve a unified network management to reduce complexity and operational costs while enhancing scalability and innovation. This integration advances openness and interoperability.

End-to-End Testing of srsRAN Enterprise 5G in i14y Lab as LaaS

SynaXG, Keysight and partner jointly showcase a demo evaluating the carrier-grade performance of SynaXG’s integrated 4G/5G O-DU/O-CU, powered by Arm. This demo highlights SynaXG’s and partner’s industry-leading energy-saving features that reduce total power consumption to under 70W, utilizing the Keysight E-Plane framework for accurate, automated energy performance characterization.

Driving Sustainable Open RAN: Performance Validation for Energy Efficiency, Consumption, and Security

LITEON and Keysight jointly demonstrate O-RU performance validation and benchmarking of energy efficiency, energy consumption, and security. Attendees will gain insights into how these technologies can optimize network performance while addressing sustainability challenges.

Accelerating Multi-Vendor Open RAN Commercialization for Scalable Deployment

LITEON, Software Radio Systems (SRS) and Keysight jointly demonstrate how testing can accelerate a multi-vendor Open RAN deployment, by combining LITEON’s O-RU and SRS’s O-DU/O-CU software solution on a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) server, while using Keysight’s Signal Analyzer to verify RF performance.

IQFR1-RU 5G FR1 O-RAN Radio Unit Test System

LitePoint's IQFR1-RU demo showcases a fully integrated test solution for 5G O-RAN Radio Units, validating RF performance and O-RAN C/U/M/S-plane functionality. Conducted over the split 7.2x interface, this demo highlights critical advancements in O-RAN architecture, ensuring interoperability and performance in real-world deployments.

5G Open Radio Unit Conformance Testing for FR1 and FR2

Metanoia and Keysight jointly showcase Open Radio Unit conformance testing for 5G FR1 and FR2 following the O-RAN ALLIANCE requirements. Keysight provides PXA Signal Analyzers and Open RAN Studio with S5040A Player and Capture Appliance.

AI and RAN Orchestration with Continuous O-RAN Interfaces Testing

Northeastern University and Keysight demonstrate an Open RAN system that integrates AI workloads, dynamic resource allocation, and continuous testing on a shared O-Cloud compute cluster and with Keysight’s O-RU Emulation Solution. The demo validates AI and RAN coexistence while providing a framework for performance benchmarking and energy consumption analysis across varied traffic models and AI/ML profiles.

Energy Efficiency Demonstration of Viettel High Tech Massive MIMO O-RU

SUTD, together with Viettel High Tech (VHT) and Keysight Technologies, showcased the energy efficiency of VHT's massive MIMO 32T32R O-RU. Using Keysight's advanced E-Plane test suite, the demo highlights the O-RU’s massive MIMO and beamforming capability that fully complies with O-RAN standards, and its energy-saving features under different traffic conditions.

Ultra-Low Power 5G Solution

SynaXG and Metanoia demonstrate an ultra-low power 5G O-RAN solution featuring cost effective hardware that optimizes the TCO for operators and enterprises. The integrated system featuring SynaXG’s O-DU/CU and Metanoia’s O-RU offers a plug-and-play design using O-RAN defined fronthaul interface.

Mechanisms for resilient cloud-native multi-x O-RAN networks

University of Malaga/MobileNet and Eurecom jointly demonstrate a novel mechanism for controlled CNF failure emulation and O-Cloud and network function  failure detection and fast recovery in cloud-native E2E 5G O-RAN networks while retaining service continuity in face of diverse failures.

Transforming O-RAN PHY Processing for Enhanced Connectivity and Energy Efficiency

The University of Surrey partnered with Keysight to showcase NL-COMM, its patented, innovative non-linear signal processing framework designed to fully exploit the available spatial, frequency and time resources of the wireless channel. In this demonstration, NL-COMM presents substantial gains, compared to traditional solutions, in spectral efficiency, connectivity and energy efficiency.

5G O-RAN Solution by WNC

WNC demonstrates an end-to-end system, with O-CU/O-DU running on a COTS server, supporting NG backhaul, F1 midhaul and eCPRI fronthaul. The O-RU is a Sub-6 indoor picocell (4T4R with 24dBm output). The system has passed the O-RAN Plugfest interoperability test and is deployed in several 5G private networks in Taiwan.

Zenlynx showcases its fully O-RAN compliant radio products, ensuring seamless network interoperability. This simplifies integration, reduces management complexity, and highlights affordability and precision, demonstrating their expertise in 5G software and hardware development.

Multi-scale hierarchical rApp-xApp tandem for Energy Saving using real mobile network data

Rimedo Labs and T-Labs (Telekom Innovation Laboratories) jointly demonstrate a hierarchical rApp-xApp tandem operation for cell on-off energy saving use case. The key aspect of the demo is the multi-scale network optimization with the interactions between apps and RICs in a large scale network using real mobile network data (site locations and traffic load).

Cohere showcases the Universal Spectrum Multiplier, a breakthrough innovation enabled by the Open RAN platform. Utilizing the E2 Interface on the CU/DU, it enables external innovation via the near real-time RIC and xApp, democratizing access previously limited to CU/DU builders.

Accelerating 5G O-RAN Localization

LIONS showcases "Accelerating 5G O-RAN Localization," featuring O-RAN-compliant solutions and interfaces. The demo supports self-sufficient 5G networks via local manufacturing, skill development, and multi-vendor integration, promoting cost-effective, domestic telecom infrastructure and technological innovation.

5G O-RAN Solution by MTI

MTI showcases our next generation of good performance and high efficient products including 4T4R Macro and Micro O-RU, compliant with Open Front Haul 7.2X. The Macro O-RU has the characteristics of small size, light weight and low power consumption. Both Macro and Micro O-RU include various of 3GPP single band and multi band products which can support either TDD or FDD mode.
